e-mail problems

Hello, Just loaded the avast, but am having trouble sending e-mails?
I get the message:

An error occurred sending mail: The mail server sent and incorrect freeting: avast! detected a collision with Norton Antivirus(processes:thunderbird.exe[1], ccsvchst.exe[49]).

Then comes:
Sending of message fail
The message could not be sent because the connection to the SMTP server XX.XXX.XX.XX was lost in the middle of the transaction. Try again or contact your network administrator.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

You should never use multiple antiviruses.
