Avast! is blocking or conflicting with EA’s Origin Client. It breaks the in game overlay for all games run through the client making it difficult to host games and chat etc. Adding the games installation directory to the exclusion list fixes the issue, but to me is not an ideal solution. Those directories are no longer being scanned/protected.
- Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
- Which version…?
- OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
- Other security related software installed…?
- Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?
Avast Free Edition ver. 18.5.2342
Definitions ver. 180721-4
I run Windows 10 64bit ver. 1803 build 17134.167
Origin client ver, 10.5.22.1331 - 0 (stable) & 10.5.23.3654 - 0 (beta)
Overlay client refuses to load with both version.
I do use Malwarebytes but I don’t use real time scanning. I only use it as a manual scanner.
I have not used or installed any other form of AV for quite some time (7 years+) Avast has been my primary AV.
I’m no gamer, but there are some fixes in the latest beta.

Tried Avast! Free Beta ver. 18.6.2343 Definitions ver. 180721-4
The problem still exists. The games load fine but the overlay is blocked unless I add the installation folders of the games to the exclusion list. >:(
I forwarded it, let’s see…
Dev-Info: We already know about it. We tested it with older versions as well and problem can be seen even with it. It looks like something new in the Origin as there weren’t changes which can cause the incompatibility in older versions.
