Early beta released...

Hi everybody,

as the lead dev of our BP/BPP products I am proud to announce the first public “early beta” of our new Business Protection product.

In this post you will find the links to the release notes (be sure to read those, a few things still don’t work in the product as you’d expect), install guide, demo licence and to all the installation package that you may try out.

Be careful not to install this in a production environment, as a few things don’t work quite well and a later upgrade to the final version may not be so seamless as one would like, but other than that, try to give this product hard time and post feedback here, please!

Please feel free to comment on how you like the Administration Console and BP in general. If you think you’ve found an error or have a valuable suggestions, please report here. Or, you can use a special e-mail address bp.feedback@avast.com for all your feedback.

First thing I noticed in the Quick Start Guide…“The Administration Console is designed primarily for small networks of up to 200 workstations.”

So, what about companies like ours that have over 200 workstations?

Installation stopped on installing service :frowning: Any advice?
Windows 2008 R2 X64

I asked the same question, they aren’t interested. I was told back in November they would make a connector for v6 to work with the existing ADNM. That was the last i heard. Vlk doesn’t respond to my mails and sales don’t have a clue whats going on.

I think the 200 workstation limitation is related only to hardware configuration of management server…
It is possible that console to scale very well on a quad xeon intel cpu with 8 or 16 gigs of ram.

Final error:

Hello,

Where is the Server and the IS edition ? i see only the PRO
IT’s possible to make a msi ? like in the ADNM

How do you push the licence to the workstation ?

Have a nice day

Pascal

Please see the release notes: “Installation takes a long time and actually appears to hang in one phase. This is caused…”

The “IS” version is not released with this beta. It will be a part of the BPP (Business Protection Plus) product, the attached demo licence is only BP.

MSI feature is currently in internal testing, not part of the public beta.

The client obtains the licence from the server when it connects.

Ok for the IS but where is the server edition

Installation stopped on installing service Any advice? Windows 2008 R2 X64

I think that this beta cannot work under 64 bits servers. I had the same problem and I had to install the SBC on a Windows 7 Pro (32 bits).

Same Problem for me on a Windows 2008 R2 x64 … he stop on “Installing service”

Hi,

we’ve just re-checked this platform in our QA department and it is possible to install the released package on this platform. See the release notes to see explanation of what appears as “hang”.

As the release notes state, there will be a better progress monitoring in future releases. In the meantime, if you think the installation stopped progressing, please observe "c:\ProgramData\AVAST Software\Administration Console\mirror" and it’s subfolders, where mirror is being build. The download operation takes quite long (depending on the speed of your internet connection). Depending on the speed of your internet connection, you should see updates to the above folder/subfolders.

Regards

We still got an error after waiting more than 15 minutes. On a installation retry we only got the error faster…

Ok we have installed the SBC after some try on :
Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise
64-bit Operating System

We have also installed on :
Windows Server 2008 Enterprise
Service Pack 2
32-bit Operating system

Sorry, I am not sure what that means. Also, for the amount of money we spent on Avast, would like to get some real answers from them. After all these years, starting to get a bit disappointed in this company.

I had thought the SBC was going to be for up to 500 clients? If 200 is the limit I really hope you release a v6 netclient for the existing ADNM

For bigger networks, a newer version of ADNM connector is under development. When this is ready, it will be announced in the ADNM forums.

One question: if we have one client with 150 computers on his network and this client later will double his number of station he will need to fallback to old and unpractical version of ADNM?
Why this limitation of exactly 200 stations?

I don’t think that “designed primarily” means <=200 stations and you can´t use it with 201.
