Easy Tether disabled

I have been running Easy Tether on my Android phone for years as my Internet connection for my Windows 7 laptop.
Last week Avast decided it was harmful and put it in the Virus Chest. I could not restore it. The “restore” option did nothing.
Now I cannot (re)install the application and also cannot uninstall it.

How can I get Easy Tether working again on my laptop?

What exact avast version do you have?
What vps version?
It could have been a false positive that has been solved already.

Avast program version: 7.0.1474
Avast Virus definition: 140713-1

My main problem is that I cannot uninstall Easy Tether and also cannot install a new version. It seems Avast has removed some files or something like that. How do I resolve this?

First things to do:
Remove Easy Tether manually.

  • Delete all files
  • Delete all registry entries for it.
  • Update avast to the latest version which is 2014.9.0.2021

Can you confurm that Easy Tether will not be targeted as a virus in the latest version? I don’t want to go through this again.

Manually removing Easy Tether and then re-installing worked.
