Ebay and Avast Free 5.0

Hi

Since Upgrading to version 5.0.545 I have a problem when using Ebay - Everytime I access a page that you need to be signed in for (eg MY EBay, or feedback etc.) I have to sign in again despite already having signed in. This happens everytime unless I switched off the Shields and then everything is OK.
I have enabled and disabled my firewall (Zonealarm) but this has noeffect at all.

I had no problem with the earlier version I was using.

Do I need to enter a exception somewhere in the web shield?

Cheers

Paul

Which version of avast are you using?
asyn

I have been using this version of avast for a while now and it is only recently that I have experienced this flip flopping back and forth with having to log in again.

So I don’t believe this is directly related as a) avast doesn’t block but scans and alerts to infection and b) it has no direct interaction with your having been signed on or not, it is ebay that determines if you are logged on or not.

So if it appears there is some interaction with avast then there is something else in the mix, what other security applications do you have installed ?

What browser are you using and does it make a difference if you use another ?
If firefox, what security related odd-ons do you have installed in firefox ?

Read the topic title and his first sentence 5 words in.

Yes Dave, thanks I did read that already, just wanted to make sure this is the version ‘really’ used, as I can’t image the free version doing something like that…

Hi Folks

Thanks for the posts so far.

The version is the latest (Free Version) 5.0.545 - I was using a Earlier version, 4 I think, but I started to get a message regarding upgrading to carry on receiving updates.

I also run Zonealarm (free Version) but I have tried with it enabled and disabled and it makes no difference. If I disable the shields everything is fine but as soon as they are renabled the problem starts again. Its not a major issue as I can disable while on ebay its just an a bit of a pain.

I am on NTL and have a cisco router and Im on Ethernet not wireless.

Cheers

Some users reported problems, running ZA with avast…
Maybe you want to try uninstalling ZA, but that’s up to you.

OK, so far, any other security applications other than ZA ?

Outstanding from my last post:

What browser are you using and does it make a difference if you use another ? If firefox, what security related odd-ons do you have installed in firefox ?

I have just been on ebay again today and made a purchase, no problem with it retaining my log in (using firefox 3.6.3). I did get the usual log-on issue that it won’t keep you logged in beyond a day.

Hi Folks

My ebay has also started working OK again today. I log in and everything seems to be OK again. I have not changed anything at all other than automatic updates to Avast.
Wondering if it was a Ebay problem not Avast!

Thanks everyone for help and Advice

Paul

Well, the only thing that comes to mind - does ZA block cookies in some way? (I won’t touch that thing so can’t really check.)

You’re welcome.

As you know nothing in avast has changed in relation to program updates, so I will leave you to draw your own conclusions where the blame might lay ;D

Seriously though I had a period of time that I had major issues with ebay, trying to pay it failed to connect to paypal for payment. I had to use IE tab in firefox (no longer around in FF 3.6) to be able to complete payment and that required lots of flip flopping back and forth, logging in, etc. Or run FF (safe Mode, no add-ons) with the same flip flopping.

I tried disabling many add-ons and never got to the bottom of it and them one day (many weeks later) everything was working again and no real reason why.

Like doktornotor, one of the first things I’d look at is your cookies and their permissions. That’s most commonly where login info is saved.
