I keep seeing referrences to them in various posts here and I have no clue what either of them are. I’ve never heard of them before coming here.
What are they, what is their pupose, what do they do, why would I want them?

Through the HijackThis section you can find a lot of links to usefull information.
If you keep seeing references to them, you should also be able to see the context that they are being referred to and you should also be able to use the links in the various threads to investigate further.
Eddy’s site gives very good information on these and links to download them.
Also, if you download and install Eddy’s program, it automatically install the latest version of HJT. ;D
Thanks for all your info. Sorry I never replied. Even as I was posting here I had had a mysterious illness for several months, and I was sick for quite a long time, to the point where the only thing I could allow myself to do was go to work on good days.
Eddie’s software sounds wonderful. I may or may not use it…I plan to switch to Linux completely, but unfortunately I have much catching up on email and other long-neglected tasks before I can do more than have both systems. So if it takes a long time, I’ll probably use Eddie’s tools, but if I get switched to Linux sooner, I’ll obviously have no use for them.

Since I compiled my tools in 80286 code, they (at least in theory) should run on about any platform.
I do know they run on linux if you use wine.
Could be they even run without it, but that is something I haven’t tested.
Let me know if you have tried it. I’m very interested.
