Edit mail servers for OE. How?

Hello Avast users.

I’ve installed 4.6 Home (latest version) on a client’s old, clean Win98 machine.

Outlook Express shows incoming and outgoing mail servers as 127.0.0.1. OK. But user name is scrambled.

I can’t find the place in Avast to specify the mail servers and the user name. Believe me, I’ve looked.

Can someone give me the exact detail on how to access this? From the desktop icon, or right-click on the system tray icon? It must be there somewhere. The Help refers to a File menu. No screen has a File menu.

Any help appreciated.

Check the help file. Under the “mail protection wizard” section, near the end, it will take you to a thorough discussion on how to manually set it up in avast.ini. Of just use the wizard.

What do you mean by scrambled, can you give an example without compromiding the user name?
I can't find the place in Avast to specify the mail servers and the user name. Believe me, I've looked.
This is specified within the users email account properties.

The server address for both POP and SMTP should be set to 127.0.0.1
The POP server name set to: username#pop.isp.com (use the actual username and ISP info)
and… SMTP server name to: username#smtp.isp.com

You can go into the Help file within the Avast Scanner and look up Manual configuration. It will take you through it step by step. It is not hard to do.

Check the avast help file for Setting up mail Protection. Switch of your email client and run the Mail Protection Wizard - Or you can set it up manually.
C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4 - look for, ashPopWz.exe - double click this and it will run the Wizard

Or see this thread for further information and advice User’s FAQ - Mail Protection.

Thanks, everyone.

I’ve printed this topic. Think it will be enough. Let you know tomorrow.
