EDIT: Old Program Suddenly Has Win32:GenMalicious DZD [Trj]

EDIT: Wrong virus name, and more research.

I’ve had Core Temp installed for MONTHS, and have had clean virus scans (as well as a few run-ins with PUPs) since, but Avast has never identified anything as coming from it. But I scanned today and suddenly Core Temp has Win32:GenMaliciousDZD [Trj]. I’ve just boot-scanned (clean), uninstalled Core Temp (installer file is still in the Virus Chest), and am running another Avast scan to chase with MalwareBytes and Adwcleaner.

VirusTotal tells me this is a scan result for the Core Temp installer pack. Does this mean the program was carrying a trojan all this time that has only now activated, or is it a False Positive that somehow wasn’t detected for over six months?

Also: if this is a virus, how much danger is a win32 virus to a Win64 system?
(I’m running Windows 8, Avast, and use Opera/Firefox)

Hello,
send us the detected file using https://support.avast.com/ → Avast Virus Lab to analyze, please.

I appreciate the responses, Milos, but I’m still not sure what this is and whether it’s an FP or not.

Should I just submit it to the virus lab as ‘other’?

Hello,
yes, you can.
