eicar - Anti-Virus test file

I just noticed that the eicar - Anti-Virus test file web site has updated to include an SSL enabled protocol https download area for the eicar test file. When I download the archived test files I noticed that avast! does not pick it up at all with real-time protection because the Web Shield does not scan https. The Standard Shield does not pick it up either.

Is there a way to enable scanning within archives for the Standard Shield?

Could to be a new tactic used in the real world to get by http scanners?

Not really. You can enable archive scanning only in avast! Pro (for On-Access).
But in the end files get scanned upon extraction anyway,so you shouldn’t worry about that.

Are you sure that no archive type is scanned on-access for Home version? Even .zip and .arj? ::slight_smile:

No,not even ZIP. Archives are only scanned by mail providers and IM/P2P Shield providers. Standard Shield doesn’t scan archives.

I believe it scans executable packers by default.
I’d say it’s really not a good idea to enable any “real” archives like ZIP for Standard Shield, it may have very bad impact.
