Could any one confirm whether this is a genuine Avast email address: avast@customercare.com
I had an email from this address warning me of a threat.

A screenshot of the email would be helpful.
Personally I wouldn’t trust an email that didn’t come from avast.com (and even then I would check the email headers to confirm it did come from there).
I would also ask, had you had any interaction with avast customer care ?
I wouldn’t believe any email suggesting/warning of a threat, too much like social engineering scam (scare the user into taking an action).
I certainly wouldn’t click any links or open any attachments if there were any in the email ?
customercare .com is not a domain of ours, but could you please post a screenshot of the email you received?

Certainly a total scam but they are hoping it’s scary enough for you to react.
I’m sure Avast will pursue this a bit further.

Yes a total scam, try to scare the pants of the user into clicking the link/s in the email. Then you could be in trouble.
No way would a spider detect trojans, deadly or otherwise in your mailbox today or any other day.
If anything was going to detect trojans in your mailbox it would be the avast installation on your system alerting you not some spider, this isn’t how avast works.
