how to disable email check
First, I’m an Avast user and not an Avast Team member.
You don’t say what Avast Program that you are running - posting in the +general sub-forum doesn’t give any clues.
See attached image of my Email Shield for Avast Antivirus Free.
Thanks for your help David. I suspected (wrongfully) the slow email was caused by Avast checking the incoming, however it looks like the problem was a full Inbox. I cleared most of the old ones and everything seems to be back to normal.

Glad that you have found the true source of the issue.
I don’t keep much in my inbox, I have several sub-folders by category, so my inbox never really has much in it, so have never experienced this. Just had a detailed look and it needs some housekeeping
