EMAIL client's

Will Opera’s (Email Client), setup for POP etc. Be scanned by Avast ?

They also offer a $29.00 version of web mail (Per Year) POP etc. Will avast scan this set up. Extremely confussing !!! ??? (was waiting for ver 5.0 Avast, OS ME, a no go !)

Do not want to have to use “STunnel” Thanks

For any and every POP/SMTP mail client (whatever it’s brand name) to work at all it has to follow the rigid rules of the POP3 and SMTP protocols. The avast Internet Mail provider does not have a clue or care what POP mail client is being used. Because there are these rigid rules of the email protocols avast can intercept the actions of the mail client making the email connections without needing to know which client is doing it.

So the answer for “you name the brand” POP client is yes - avast can scan the mail but if and only if the mail is delivered on non-secured ports typically ports 110 for POP and 25 for SMTP. If “you name the brand” mail client has accounts set up to use secured connections then avast cannot scan those connections and attempts to make it do so will fail.

In avast 4.8 if you want to have mail delivered on secured connections scanned by avast then you will need to use a third party helper program like STunnel. If you do not wish to use STunnel then you must rely on the scanning provided by the email service itself.

I hope that helps.

Can you point me to a description of this service? I would need to see a bit more about it to answer - but I rather suspect the answer may be “no”.

Thanks Alanrf !!, will get back to you on the other link !.

Alanrf, check out Attachment, (needed a pass word for link), I think I can use this with My email client, (outlook express) and avast should be able to scan. ? ???
