Yesterday I could not login to my hotmail account as it said someone was using my account. It took me several hours to reset my password and eventually access my account on another computer. I had just updated my Avast the previous day and it automatically updates each time I turn my laptop on. I have scanned my laptop and have no threats and there is no record of any ever being found. I can access my hotmail on my iPad and another computer but can no longer open outlook (hotmail) on my laptop.
Can anyone offer any advice as to how my email account got hacked (someone has sent an email from my account to all my contacts and some of these now have the same problem) and how to restore my hotmail on my laptop?
hey and welcome to the forum
I’m no expert when it comes to this things, but when Google on the term outlook got hacked. the first thing you should check for is malware.
so please follow this guide and attach the logs (we need the logs from mbam, otl, and aswmbr)

a malware expert will help you from there.
with what browser are you accessing outlook.com (hotmail)?
good luck
Best thing you can do is close that mail account, even though your computer isn’t infected
that mail is no longer safe to use it (this happens most with hotmail that is quite vulnerable and can even be linked to skype)
