email infection

A friend got an email that contained an infected URL. To get infected one would have to click on the URL. I also received the mail. I did not get infected, and assume that the mail would normally not be flagged, but if I had clicked on the URL Avast would have alerted and blocked the trojan. Is this correct?
Thanks.

Jerry

Most probably.
If the URL is detected as being infected (avast detection, like anything in life, could fails).

Hi Pondus,
I am not sure how to read the VT results. I assume the names indicate the name that the various applications give the trojan. What does the percentage indicate, ie 10/41?

Also I assume that the date shown is the date the AV updated and not the date the trojan was found and named.
Thanks.

What does the percentage indicate, ie 10/41?
41 virus scanners......and 10 detect infection in that web site...

Thanks Pondus. Ten out of 41 does not speak well for some AVs. I wonder how new this one is?

I think I got my profile done.

Thanks,
Jerry

The version of avast you are using, e.g. 5.0.545 if helpful if you are ever seeking help, it does of course mean you have to keep your signature up to date ;D

Hi David,
This may be too complicated for a dummy like me. Thanks. ;D

there is ceratinly an obfuscated script at the end of the page source.

I doubt the malicious entity to where the redirect goes exists anymore. My test box attempts to grab a resource from 91.205.233.91 but the host is not reachable

Still a good thing that avast blocked it.
