email left on server + junk senders list

I have the home version of Avast 4.7. It does not seem to be working too smoothly with Outlook, in that I’m seeing these 2 problems:

  1. Even though I’ve marked in Outlook that once email is downloaded to Outlook it should be removed from the server, this is not happening. (It used to work before Avast.)

  2. Telling Outlook to add an email address to the “Junk Senders List” no longer works

Is there a solution/setting I’ve missed?

Neither of these functions comes anywhere close to being affected by the use of avast with Outlook.

I assume that you are using Outlook (rather than Outlook Express).

If you are using the avast plugin for Outlook then Outlook simply allows avast to scan each message that is received by Outlook and give an ‘OK’ or ‘Not OK’ status to the message - avast plays no other part in and does not scan the POP commands that delete the messages on the server once read.

If you are using the Internet Mail provider then (just as it does for every other POP mail client in existence) avast scans the POP stream, message by message, and removes any infected attachments (or complete messages). If avast was causing problems to Outlook in this scenario it would be doing the same to every other mail client - since the Internet Mail scanner has not got a clue which mail client you use.

In either case the POP interface to delete the messages once read are not intercepted or changed by avast.

Did you have another anti-virus product scanning email before avast? If so which one and how did you go about removing it?
