I’m using the free version of Avast. Yesterday, it warned of a email that contained Win23:Swen. That’s a good thing! I selected the Delete option and that was the end of that email. However, I can’t find where the incident was logged anywhere. Does the free version lack this function or am I overlooking the obvious? thanks!

Hi,
what exactly you think “that was the end of that e-mail”?
There are two possible situations:
- Virus dialog (with identification of virus) appears. When you select
“Delete”, only infected part of e-mail will be deleted.
- Heuristic dialog - when you choose “Delete”, e-mail will be replaced
with avast! text (something like "Suspicious e-mail, blablabla…)
Because you write that Swen was detected, I think that Virus dialog appears. What provider do you use? (Internet mail or Outlook?)
thanks!

Pavel, I think what Culperer was saying is that avast did well - i.e. it nuked the virus with no problems. However, the question was how to set up report file generation for the resident task in the Home Edition.
To answer this question - well, it’s not possible via the GUI. But it would actually be possible by tweaking it a bit…

Thanks! I use OE and Calypso with SpamPal. The message was in the Spam folder but the virus was disabled/deleted by Avast. So there is no log for this action in the Home edition???
VLK was right. I was stating that Avast email scanner is working good.

If you want to turn it on, add the following line to the first task definition in \DefTasks.xml:
TXT
(anywere in the block, the order does not make any difference).
That will create a report file in the \data\report folder.
You will need to restart the avast service (or reboot the machine) for the changes to become effective.
Hope this helps,

Does it create a file call Residence Protection.txt? Like this:
-
avast! Report
-
This file is generated automatically
-
Task ‘Resident protection’ used

Yes, that’s it. The default is that only infectection events will show up (no entries for OK files).

Okay, is there a limit to the file size or do I need to delete the file occassionally?

Is there anything I should know about the file size of the report?

Well, I got another email virus (Swen32) that avast caught with no problem but when I went to check my residency protection.txt file it’s last entry was for 10/7/03. Maybe the last program update removed my entries for this?
