email not accepting password

I have just changed my broadband provider and the password they have given me is not accepted on my email (Thunderbird). It works for access to the net. I checked with them and they told me all the correct settings which were in, and then said they don’t know about Mozilla Thunderbird only Outlook and Outlook Express! I then contacted Mozilla who had several suggestions all of which I tried but still can’t get through, and they then suggested I contact Avast forums as they said there had been some issues with Avast since recent updates.
Can anyone help please? I haven’t been able to use my email program for four days.

Let’s just do a very simple test first to see if avast is involved.

Terminate the avast Internet Mail provider and try to access your account with Thunderbird again.

Does the password work with the provider turned off?

Avast antivirus was installed in my pc,then updated online. No firewall is used in the moment. When I try to login my email in “www.163.com”,after entering my id and password ,nothing happen.Terminate the avast Internet Mail provider, still nothing happen.
(Excuse me,English is not my native language.I hope you can understand what I have said.)

My email is caibua@163.com.

If the problem is just the same with the avast Internet Mail provider terminated then the problem is almost certainly nothing to do with avast.

You should seek help from your ISP or the support team for your email service.

Thanks. But if the avast antivirus is uninstalled, all is ok.So the problem must caused by avast.

Or by anything that is blocking avast…
Maybe the firewall, maybe other security program…

No firewall is working in my pc this moment, except avast.

avast is not a firewall, but, never mind, which is your windows?

win xp sp2

Hi Tech
You are avast translator,so can you speak Chinese?

Oh no… I can only speak Portuguese (Brazil), Spanish and English ::slight_smile:

I tried to look at the website for 163.com. It will be no surprise that I could not read it.

I hope I will be forgiven for wondering, since this apparently is a Chinese web site, whether this ISP requires the use of any software (somewhat akin to web accelerators) that places port intercepts similar to those of avast for the mail ports to enable mail interception by the ISP. If so, then it may be that such intercepts and those of avast do not work well together.

Thank you for your answer,alanrf.

I have another problem with avast. After installing avast ,I can not downlaod files from intermet by any downlaod tools, such as flashget ,evenif all residence provider being terminated.

caibhua,

did your Internet Service Provider require you to install any software on your system in order for you to set up your account with them?

 Hi :

This Forum had one of our "regulars" start a thread
"75% of Chinese computers infected" at :

 http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=22885.0 ;

Perhaps yours is one of the 75% which is causing your
problem(s); the fact you want to use the adware
Flashget program implies that is true !?

I have a resolution to this problem.I installed a firewall .When boot pc,do not allow avast autorun, first run the firewall,in my pc it is “rising firewall”,a Chinese solftware, then run ashDisp.exe,in this way ,all is ok.I can login my email box in www.163.com on ie or on Maxthon, also can downlaod files by downlaod tools.
my email is caibhua@163.com.

First,in the firewall ,I choosed forbidding avast! Web scanner to vist internet,it is ok.Then allow avast! Web scanner to vist internet ,all are also ok .

caibhua,

I am glad that you managed to fix the problem. Well done!

Welcome to the forum and I hope avast continues to work well for you.

alanrf,tech and spiritsongs,
Thank you for your trying to help me.I am glad that the problem had been solved.
