I changed my ISP and wanted to change the address where I receive definition/program update notifications. I went through all the settings and even tried to define an SMTP alert but Avast was still trying to send to the previous address. I read through some of the forum posts and didn’t find an answer. I searched through my registry for the old email address and didn’t find it. I then searched through the Avast4 folder and found it in C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\Avast4.ini under the SMTPLogTo= setting.
This setting seems to be set only during installation and cannot be modified via the program settings. Am I correct? If yes then I think this needs to be added to the settings applet.
What version of avast do you have Home or Pro ?
The only thing that would be relative to your question is the push updates and that is an avast Pro option I believe.
The VPS and Program updates don’t actually require an email address (unless you setup the push update option) as they are covered by the auto update checks within the program.
Right click the ‘a’ icon > Program settings > Update (Basic) > Details > Registration…
Do it twice, removing the old one and adding the new one.
As I said only available in the Pro version, trying to enable Push iAVS updates give the prompt oly available in the Pro version. So we need htpcdude to confirm what version he is using ?
So just click here: http://www.avast.com/eng/subscription_service2.html
And register to receive the notifications (Home version) or push updates (Pro).
I just noticed that this topic is in the avast! 4 Server Edition forum. I assume that that is incorrect, perhaps on of the moderators can move it.
