After installing Avast I am now unable to send any Email using my Outlook Express. I have tried different settings but am getting nowhere. Can anybody help me? Thanks, Rick
What is your operating system?
Resize your avatar, please - it’s too big. Thanks.
What is your OS
What is your firewall?
Does it allow ashMaiSv.exe access to the internet?
The size of the image you have used as an avatar, we try to keep to 100X100 for those with low resolution settings.
Sorry about the avatar. Hope it’s ok now. I am using Windows XP SP2.
Were you using another antivirus product before installing avast?
Did you remove that product before installing avast?
I was using Panda Platinum and had to manually uninstall it. After i uninstalled, I ran the Avast setup
What about the firewall questions I asked?
That may not be too important if you can receive emails, you didn’t mention that?
Not sure what ashMaiSv.exe is but I am able to download new messages. I just cannot send out any mail. It just keeps on coming up with an error message box like this:
The server does not support a SSL connection. Account: ‘Sympatico’, Server: ‘smtphm.sympatico.ca’, Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: ‘250 OK’, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 250, Error Number: 0x800CCC7D
I am using xp’s firewall as well
NinerFan,
in Outlook Express if, in accounts, you select this mail account and click on properties, then select the “Advanced” tab.
Do you have :
“Outgoing mail (SMTP):” box set to 25
and is the box below it:
“This server requires a secure connection (SSL)” checked?
yes it is, I’ve gone thru all that stuff with my service provider already. Not much luck. They told me it may be a software problem.
Your error message said:
The server does not support a SSL connection.
You have your mail client set up to request an SSL connection which your server says it does not support.
I suggest you uncheck the box:
“This server requires a secure connection (SSL)”
and try sending your mail again.
