Email Problem

I have been unable to SEND email since installing Avast. I read the FAQ about it, but directions are not complete enough to follow. HELP!! Guess I’m just a dunderhead!

Oh, and also, I have now disabled my email protection. HOw do I get it back on? The ‘enable’ key is grayed out.

Why can’t you send emails, what error messages are displayed ?
Please post the full text or a screenshot of the error/s

What is your email client ?

What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashMaiSv.exe internet access ?

 • If it does delete the entry for it and try to send email again, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.

The icon might be greyed out (I assume you are talking about the same one in my image), click the Start Button and answer Yes to the Persist the changes question.

The error message says, “An unknown error has occurred. Subject ‘Reply…at long last!’, Account: ‘mail.hughes.net’, Server: ‘SMTP.hughes.net’, Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: ‘554 Sorry, this message is rejected here. ( 403477725 )’, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC6F”

I am running Outlook Express.

Thanks for the reply…not sure what firewall is running…it’s one that came with my wireless network device. It’s a linksys.

I have selected the icon, but the ‘start’ button is not functional. I have ‘terminated’ that part of the progam, but when you do that the ‘start’ button becomes non-functional.

The Internet Mail Provider is an avast! resident provider and it is not just the corresponding service. If you have Internet Mail running and stop the “avast! Mail Scanner” service, you disable the scanning of e-mails, but you don’t turn the provider into “stopped” state (rather “waiting for a subsystem to start”). Similarly, if Internet Mail is stopped, you cannot start it just by starting the “avast! Mail Scanner” service.
I suggest that you boot your system and try again with avast default settings for the providers (on).

How did you Terminate it ?
If using the same screen then the Start button should still be enabled as in my image, because that is what I did (Terminate) to get the image I posted. So there is something else wrong.

If what Tech suggest doesn’t resolve it, try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow.

554 Transaction failed This is a generic response returned by the server if an SMTP transaction failed. This response is typically returned if too many errors were received in processing.
