Email Questions

Just installed Avast Home on my wifes computer. She use Outlook Express and has one smpt server and 2 pop servers, one for our local ISP mail address and another for a website address.

When installing it asked for the default smpt and pop servers, but I could only give one of the 2 pop servers. Will the program get both servers from Outlook Express.

How can I tell if email scanning is working. I sent a test email to and from her computer. I notice under the info for Internet Mail it shows 2 items scanned and lists the last item as the mail which I sent. Under the Outlook/Exchange it appears not to be functioning. I assume that is because Outlook/Exchange program is not installed. Can I just stop this function and is Outlook Express run through Internet Mail?

O/S is win 98se

Yes you can stop it if you are not using Outlook, though it doesn’t really use anything when its idle. Internet mail is the correct module for Outlook express.

Or you can let it there as it won’t use resources if MS Office is not installed (i.e., if MS Outlook is not present and running).

Could someone address this portion of my message?

Default is by its definition one, default printer, etc. so your default SMTP is clear and the default POP3 I would say is the one for the same domain as the SMTP.

However, ALL email accounts POP3 and SMTP will be scanned by avast not just the defaults that you entered.

Default SMTP server (Outbound) and default POP server (Inbound) are explained here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=1647.msg10266#msg10266
