Email scanner setup problems

I have just changed my ISP and have a new email address. I have a problem setting up email scanner. My OS is windows ME and I use Netscape browser.
I have made the changes in the .ini file, changed the server names to 127.0.0.1 and in the browser changed the user names.
I suspect that I have a problem because my user name is the same as my email address - i.e. it contains an “@” symbol. When I try to log in the SMTP server will not accept my password as it sees it as a different account.
That is to say my user name in each case becomes: mail@name.efhmail.com#pop3.mail.name.efhmail.com (and of course for outgoing mail #smtp instead of #pop3)
Is there a work around for this problem?
Is this in fact the problem.
Also what values should I have set for :Ignore Localhost= and Auto Redirect= in Web Scanner & Mail Scanner sections of Avast4.ini?

Any help or advice is most welcome as I feel much happier with the superb protection provided by avast!

I think the easier way is to remove the mail protection with the Mail Protection Wizard, correct account settings, check if they work and finally set up the protection again with the wizard.

IgnoreLocalhost and AutoRedirect has not any effect on WinME, because transparent redirecting is implemented only for WinNT/2000/XP.

vojtech: Many thanks for your reply. I tried the following:

  1. Removed mail protection with Mail Protection Wizard.
  2. Restarted computer.
  3. Tested e-mail - o.k.
  4. Used Mail Protection Wizard - Manual set-up.
  5. Checked Ashmaisv running.
  6. Tested e-mail - o.k. - but no logo in start bar.
  7. Changed Server Name & User Name for POP3 & SMTP Servers in Netscape 7.1 browser.
  8. Closed the browser.
  9. Opened the browser and got the following message "The USER command did not succeed. Mail server 127.0.0.1 responded: Cannot connect to POP server pop3.mail.name.efhmail.com (255.255.255.255:110), gethostbyname error 11001.

Apologies for creating work for you!

But the wizard should have changed the server name and user name in Netscape account automatically. Had you closed Netscape before you started the wizard ? And did the wizard show your account at page ‘E-Mail Account Selection’ ?

Didn’t you make a typo when you were changing the username manually ?

@vojtech

Thank you for your continuing help.

No, the wizard did not change the server and user name in Netscape account.

Netscape was closed before I started the wizard.

Yes, the wizard showed my account at page ‘E-Mail Account Selection’

No, no typos when changing user name - I added ‘#pop3.’ or ‘#smtp.’ then copied the original server name using ctrl-c, ctrl-v.

Any ideas you have will be very welcome. I hope that solving this problem may help other people in the future.

@ vojtech. IGNORE MY LAST REPLY - PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

Thank you again - you supplied the answer - Netscape was running.

Netscape quickstart was enabled, so although it did not appear on the screen it was running in the background.

Again many thanks for your help.
