Email Send/Receive Fails After Upgrading (Free antivirus) From v7 to v8.0.1482

Older versions of antivirus free (7) working fine on 3 PCs: WinXP SP3, XP Home Edition, and Windows 7 x64. However, after upgrading on one notebook and removing the mail accounts as prompted by the Avast interface, I lost capability to send/received email. Before deleting the accounts (after upgrade to v8) all worked well. Now, cannot modify the Avaist mail shield by adding back the accounts and have no email on that computer.

is better to try a clean install, update failed because the following components
