I have just upgraded from Version 4.8.1201 to Version 4.8.1335 (uninstalled and installed). My POP email was being scanned with the older version but is not being scanned now. I searched for information on this in the forum but couldn’t find any directly related to this.
When I installed the new version I entered the POP and SMTP information I have in my Outlook Express program. Upon testing email coming in the ball does not spin and I do not get the message that I used to get any more that the email was scanned by Avast.
Is there a detailed explanation somewhere that explains all that needs to be done to set up Outlook Express POP mail so that it can be scanned?
That email POP and SMTP are the default ones. Used by avast to communicate (send files for analysis). Not sure they’re used nowadays.
Your real emails (including that one) should be scanned if they don’t use SSL connections (protected connections).
As I posted Version 4.8.1201 worked just fine with me POP mail. I wouldn’t expect two versions later to not be able work now in reference to your comment “Not sure they’re used nowadays”.
What I input into the mail wizard when Avast installed was the “incoming POP3” info and the “outgoing SMTP” that I have in OUTLOOK EXPRESS. Avast asked for these two values (POP/SMTP) and I presume this is the same that I have in Outlook Express for my incoming POP3 mail server and I would add these were the ONLY two questions asked when Avast installed. Of course there is an account name and password in Outlook Express as well
I am presuming there is something that I STILL NEED TO DO and have forgotten that I had done on my last upgrade to ver 4.8.1201 that worked before.
Where exactly do I access the email settings in Avast?
Where is the email Wizard in Avast?
Possibly I could get an idea by looking at these functions…
I have found the instructions for WIN98 regarding the Avast “Internet Mail” provider. The avast4.ini file already has the proper values in the file (which were entered via the Mail Protection Wizard in the Avast program applications). But upon looking further into the problem since it still doesn’t work I find in the Avast Manual that I am supposed to set the Outlook Account settings for POP3 and SMTP to my local computer address. My internet provider (ISP.com) recently changed to Gmail servers and I had to set those values to “pop.gmail.com” & “smtp.gmail.com” to send/receive email via Outlook Express and thus cannot set the values to my local computer address as instructed by the Avast Manual.
Is there a way to get Avast to scan my incoming/outgoing email using Outlook Express under the circumstance I currently have? ???
If not then I have lost an important function of Avast it would seem.
Same situation here lakrsrool. OSME, I also have isp.com. You will have to use something called “Stunnel” (Third Party). Some one will be along, I hope, and explain it to You. I also use OE, with no more scans In or out going mail because of what ISP.COM did.
