Email to renew - Too early (from avast account?)

Hi

I have just received an email, from avast informing me that I have 30 days left of my free registration.

Thing is, I actually have 68 days left.

So my questions are:

  • Why is it being sent early?

  • Is this a part of the avast account?

    • If so, I would prefer to be informed that I will be emailed about renewals (I actually like the idea, just would like to know, and don’t think I was informed.)
    • I would also welcome an option to choose whether I am informed by email, in the account page (or avast itself)

(There is an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the email, but an option as part of the account would be nicer ;))

Thanks,

Scott

Scott, remember that renewing within the avast interface will grant you the days remaining in the actual license.
If you renew on avast! site, you’ll lose these remaining days.

But, about your question, I don’t know :-[

Yes, I remember that, and it is free version anyway so it doesn’t really matter when I renew

I am going to wait until 30 days and then see what happens.

Just wanted to find out what is going on with the email…

Just noticed, if it matters

That email came from news(@)email.avast.com which is used by the news releases that I also get.
Emails from the avast account (going by the registration one) come from my(@)avast.com

So, does anyone from avast know why I got an early email?

Also where it came from?

That email must be something new because I never got one a few months ago on any of my machines.

What expiry date does your avast account my.avast.com show, is it the same as the installed device it refers to ?

It matches the avast installation. valid until the 6th of May.

The email is the only thing that contains the wrong time.

OK, I’m all for a reminder, but that is ridiculous.

The whole reminders thing has gone bonkers, back in the day when you had to do it from the avast site and wait for the email and enter it into avast it was only 28 days I believe.

Now there is a much easier UI renewal process that really doesn’t need to be greater than 14 days.

Better yet, why can’t the my.avast.com account just renew it automatically if the various device/s are active (VPS updates within the last 30 days, etc.) and send the email reporting that it has been renewed. Otherwise I see little point in this new avast account portal.

I would also have thought/expected that the point of the avast account would be to coordinate all devices to a common renewal date.

it’s a free version registration … can’t see where the big deal is, just renew it if asked, doesn’t matter if the delay is right or wrong ;D

@davidR I agree, avast should renew it automatically, especially since the account with device detection is there.

The email is wrong, that was what I was posting about, it doesn’t match the known dates.

I also want to know what happens when the registration is ending with respect to the account, which is why I reported it, but will wait until the time comes that I can.

The big deal isn’t with me, but other users that may experience this.

  • avast hasn’t sent emails like this out before (that I am aware of) so the origin/reasoning behind this email is important IMO (also being informed about it before hand is important)

  • The fact that it is wrong will confuse others, since there is conflicting information.

I am not even sure if this came from the avast account system since the data doesn’t match and the email addresses don’t either.

Remember this topic?

So, today I got the email about renewing. It is now technically correct given that my avast will expire in 31 days.

I think I may have inadvertantly worked out what system may have sent it as well.

The first (incorrect) email went to myemail@gmail… This is the email address that I signed up to the avast account with

This new (correct) email went to myemail+avast@gmail… This is the email address that I registered the free version with.

So, my conclusion is that the avast account sent the email incorrectly?

Also, I would like to know the answer to this:

Thanks,

Scott
