Email - Your laptop has been shipped

Today my wife received subject email from “Dell Agent” - the message inside was that the laptop was 2000$ (sic), your credit card has been charged and to go to hxxp://90-off-spring.com if you have any questions.

Anyone have any info on this scam?

No but there are many like it trying to get you worried enough about a CC charge to visit the site.
There you may either a) be asked for details to confirm who you are like your CC number, mothers maiden name, inside leg measurement (perhaps not), etc. etc. in the hope that they can use this information for fraudulent purposes, or b) possibly get infected.

I wouldn’t visit the site and to that end you should modify your post to make the link inactive, e.g. hXXp://90-off-spring.com replacing the tt with XX will break the link but still be readable by human.

A whois for 90-off-spring.com doesn’t reveal any useful information and to me that in its own right is suspicious. As if it were a Dell Agent I would expect it to return info on Dell as they sell direct and I don’t believe they use agents.

If you have any trading standards or equivalent body you could report this to them or to the police as possible attempted fraud.

@DavidR:

Agreed - original post modified. My original thought was that on a forum like this no one would click the link.

There are some who are just to curious for there own good, remember many visiting here might have clicked the link in the email so they may well do the same here. There was one web site that actually ran a test which said, whatever you do don’t click this link and you would be surprised how many people still did ???

So basically it protects the innocent.
