emails not being scanned

hi there, after looking at my real time shields it appears that none of my emails have been scanned since early august. all other shields appear to be operating correctly.

i am using avast free 5.1.864 after a clean install.
OS - xp sp3
Email - outlook express 6
ISP - virgin media which does require ssl

if i untick the inbound/outbound ssl boxes in my email settings then avast does scan emails

hi Charyb & thanks for the info.

i have followed the procedure for the set up but at the moment my mail client is in/out with service so unable to determine if it has been successful.

will run with it for now & if any problems when my client comes back online then i will report back here.
