I use Thunderbird email client on win7 and my email addresses display the 'This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Antivirus protection is active.'message. However one of the email addresses receives emails with attachments but the email does not show that message.
The email with the attachment is obviously a spam and most likely the attachment has a virus.
Any ideas as to why that email is not being scanned by Avast ?
( 'This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Antivirus protection is active.'message.)
You would not be getting this message if Avast wasn’t doing it’s job. It’s more than likely keeping you from opening a dangerous attachment.I would listen to the security on your pc and stay away from what may be a dangerous attachment.
can you upload the attachment to www.virustotal.com and test with 40+ malware scanners
No because I would have to save it to my laptop first. And I don't want to do that. Whether or not the attachment has a virus or not is not the point ... the point is occasionally an email gets through without being scanned.
what mail account is the one not scanned?
my info@weblinksonline.co.uk email address is not being scanned when it has attachments
All of my email accounts are being scanned 99.999999999% of the time
Occasionally an email with a zip attachment is received that appears not to be scanned because it does not have the Avast message
99.999999999% of the time the Avast message is on the received emails.
it is not dangerous to save the zip attachment (as long as you dont unzip and run whats inside) and then upload it to virustotal. you then just delete it when done… however if you are unsure how to then dont
most mail providers have virus scanners on the mail server and wil remove the attacment or the hole mail if infected. like Hotmail / yahoo mail / Gmail
you may ask you mailprovider if they have spamfilter and virus scan
If an email has text in it … is blank … or has an image in it … then the ’ This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! Antivirus protection is active. ’ shows at the bottom.
But the emails received that do not display the avast message have an html table with the text in the fields.
Looks like the spammers have found a way to avoid Avast scanning emails
I have downloaded and scanned the attachment Virus found
Reported it as under undetected malware and attached the file
Also gave information that only emails with the text in the field of an HTML field are not scanned.
I have the exact same problem on my XP system. Avast 2014 simply will not scan any of my emails. I had to disable SSL scanning because Thunderbird 24.2 repeatedly kept asking to verify the avast certificate. Have these issues been looked into?
