???
A little information might help.
What Operating System are you using ?
What is your email program ?
What errors are you getting (please post the full text or a screen shot of the error) ?
Are you able to receive email ?
What is your firewall ?
Does it allow ashWebSv.exe internet access ?
- If it does delete the entries for them and do a manual update and reconnect to the internet, this will force the firewall to ask permission again.
Can you check your email configuration to see if it is correct?
If you disable the avast mail provider, will the messages be allowed to send/receive?
What is your email program ? Microsoft OutlookIs that Outlook or Outlook Express ?
If it is MS Outlook, what version ?
Check that the avast plug-in is not disabled, though I would have though that you wouldn’t be able to receive either if it were disabled.
Outlook 2003 > Help > About > Disabled items
Outlook 2000 > Tools menu > Options > Other > Advanced Options > Add-In Manager.
What is your firewall ? Have no clue where to look to tell you that? The system tray would be one place to look for an icon or Control Panel, Security Centre should tell you what your firewall is.
Layman terms, please! How do I disable the avast mail provider?
OK if you right click on the avast ‘a’ icon and select On-Access Protection Control, from the pop-up window there should be a column of icons on the left (if not click the Details button), select Outlook/Exchange, now click Terminate, answer No to the question. I don’t know if you also have the Internet Mail provider enabled (you shouldn’t need it for MS Outlook), if so disable in the same way as for Outlook/Exchange.
That will have disabled the email scanner for Outlook/Exchange. You need to also disable the avast plug-in within Outlook. Now avast should be having no interaction now try to send an email if you have the same problem, it is something outside of avast. Unfortunately I will be unable to offer any practical help as I’m not a MS Outlook user.
The windows XP firewall has no outbound protection, so shouldn’t be interfering with sending email.
