Enable Anti Rootkit Monitor

Under Settings - Troubleshooting, there is now a new option to “Enable anti-rootkit monitor” — that’s in addition to the already existing option to enable rootkit scan on system startup. Can someone elaborate on what this new option does, and in particular, how it differs from the older option?

I can only assume that it is like an extension of the ‘enable rootkit scan on system startup’ by monitoring areas where a rootkit is likely to be hidden.

Why it might be in the Troubleshooting section is somewhat strange, what problems/interaction with other programs do they foresee, to uncheck the option if enabled.

I don’t know if this option is enabled by default as I’m on my win10 laptop and still have 17.4.2294 installed.

It is enabled by default.

Thanks Eddy.

This settings is there for a while (introduced several versions before).

Correct for the “enable rootkit scan on system startup.” But the “Enable anti-rootkit monitor” is new as I’m on my win10 laptop and still have 17.4.2294 installed and “Enable anti-rootkit monitor” isn’t there.

Uh, I might have confused stable builds and beta ones, sorry.

No problem, it was just for clarification.

Avast often warns that “anti-rootkit monitor disabled” and I must restart. In the “Problems” tab I click on “enable” but with no effect.

Why does Avast drop the monitor?

Why must it restart, in order to enable?
