After my Avast Premium Security with multiuser upgraded to the new version, all my browsers stopped working. They all related to an error “This site can’t provide a secure connection” ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR.
I tried bank sites like Chase, Bank of America, yahoo, youtube in all 3 browsers but none working.
It took me awhile, but found out the “Enable Web Guard” is causing it. It literally works like a switch, turning of, it works and turning on, it stops working, and I tried it multiple times.
I have another computer with the same version of Avast in terms of Program version, but is an Avast Free Antivirus, that works fine.
I’m using Windows 11 Home on both computers.
Did anybody experience the same issue?
I’m using Avast Premium on Win11 and not having any issue with browsing (Firefox, Edge) so far.
Give repair a try: Settings => General => Troubleshooting => Repair App
Thanks so much. I just tried it, but it did not work. I already uninstall and reinstall the avast, but it did not work. I also make sure to update my Windows.
Unfortunately, my Restore point is after when my Avast updated.
Sorry to hear that. So you can’t browse any website while Web Guard (former Web Shield) enabled? Or only some websites?
Similar issue here: After updating a few days ago to Avast Premium Security 25.6.10221a (build 25.6.10221.939)… Some websites (YouTube for example) are non-responsive or very slow. When I turn off all shields, things work fine. And things worked fine before the update.
I cannot open some websites and most YouTube videos. My local PC repair shop turned off my Avast Web Guard, and everything worked. Win 11 Home, Avast Premium. They told me that many antivirus programs have a similar option that acts the same as Web Guard.
Turning off Avast is throwing the baby out with the bath water and doesn’t help pin down the real issue. Even just disabling the Web Guard, isn’t a solution as it leaves you unprotected for all other sites.
YouTube will be trying to check out who is using it, this may well interfere with the Web Guard.
You could try adding an Exception for YouTube.
Avast UI - Settings > Menu > Exceptions - Add Exception, see attached.
