Enabling Email Client SSL

After upgrading to Avast 8 free and getting the message to enable SSL in your email settings I did just that and my email works fine. It also says to delete the SSL accounts in the Mail Shield Settings is it wanting me to delete both my POP3 and SMTP settings in the SSL Scanning screen?

Avast8 can now (by all accounts, excuse unintended pun) handle the SSL emails without having to modify your email settings in your email program.

Delete the entries for your email accounts in the avast Mail Shield, Settings, SSL Accounts.

Ok thanks just wanted to double-check I was deleting the right things!

You’re welcome.

Using this procedure with Thunderbird is working excempt for one annoyance. Thunderbird does not accept the certificates generated by Avast! without a prompt. The authority of Avast! is not recogized. Is there any way to get Thunderbird to accept Advast! as an authority?

Check this out, not sure if it is exactly what you are seeking - ssl eror unable to get local issuer certificate -

Perfect.

Glad that it has resolved your problem.
