EOL support for Windows XP

Beginning October 1, 2024, all Avast/AVG Antivirus products will no longer be tested on Windows XP operating systems. While support for our products on XP has ended some time ago, users of older Avast versions (18.8 and older) have still received virus definition updates. However, we can no longer guarantee that these updates will be free from unexpected issues, as we are discontinuing testing on Windows XP.

We will continue to release updates for these old AV versions, but using them will be at your own risk. We strongly recommend upgrading to a newer operating system, as Windows XP has not been supported by Microsoft for quite some time.

May the force be with you!

Tech details :

  • Affected users - AV versions 18.8 and older
  • Affected operating systems - Windows XP

Hopefully we don’t have too many people from Armenia who use Avast.

Thanks for the notice, and thank you for this long support for XP.

For clarification: is this EOL also for Vista? Or Vista is (somehow) still supported?

Only XP now.

But Vista and Win7 without SP1 is next… To be more clear - those systems are unsupported for a while. New installer won’t install anything to those systems. If you want to stay with some old AV version that works there then you can. For now we don’t have any dates when we completely discontinue the “support” (aka production of virus definitions).
