Eradicating Java redirect virus

I was redirected to a fake Java update page in Mozilla Firefox 30.0. I have run the Malwarebytes scan and am continuing the hunt with OTL, aswMBR.exe, and probably the aVast scan, too.

Hi dangerousknowledge

And welcome to the forums.

See: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

Attach all logs in your next reply. A certified malware expert will be contacted for you.

Here are the OTL logs.

Here is the aswMBR.exe log.

Good job so far.

Gone and contacted one for you. Expect a reply in a bit. If anything else is required he will let you know.

Thanks much, mchain.

What problems are you experiencing ?

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode onto your desktop.

[*]Close all open programs and internet browsers.
[*]Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
[*]Click on Scan.
[*]After the scan is complete click on “Clean”
[*]Confirm each time with Ok.
[*]Your computer will be rebooted automatically. A text file will open after the restart.
[*]Please post the content of that logfile with your next answer.
[*]You can find the logfile at C:\AdwCleaner[S1].txt as well.

I experienced a webpage redirecting to a fake Java update page. At the same time, Avast detected two threats. I believe that one was a webpage and the other a file on my computer. The file is named B21Geq81.exe.part, is infected with the Win32:Malware-gen virus, and is in the Avast virus chest.

I have attached the AdwCleaner log file. Thank you for your help, essexboy.

OK if it was a part file then Avast blocked it as soon as the bad bit was detected and it is now inert and will not be able to run

Webshield then probably reset the connection

As it stands your system looks clean

Thanks much! Avast and Malwarebytes solved the problem. 8)

Subject to no further problems

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article and this article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:
