ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED

Hi everyone

Recently, whenever I try to visit forums, any forum, I keep getting “ERR_NETWORK_ACCESS_DENIED”. After ages of tampering with settings I managed to work out it was Avast doing it.
I searched on how to resolve it and I followed all the instructions such as add exclusion or delete from firewall, but nothing worked. The only way I can access these forums is to have avast fully disabled.

Does anyone know a solution?

Thanks!

P.S Please change the Captcha, It’s horrible. I’m on 10+ tries now and there are much easier ones available.

The captcha is there for your first 3 posts. Anti-spam measure… Sorry.
Which version of Avast are you using ??? Avast 2015.10.4.2233 is the latest version

Ahh I see, I’m glad its not all the post then

Yes I am running the latest version, I did check for updates and it’s all working fine.
This has been an issue for some time now, So I assume it started with the previous version, I can’t remember.

Which operating System and firewall are you using ???

Windows Firewall, I had it disabled as well as the Avast firewall disabled with no result.
Other users on the forums are having no issue with Windows Firewall.

Running Windows 7 Ultimate 64

What other security programs are you using ???
Are you able to get to the internet at all ???

Internet is working fine for me, It just seems to be forums.
I have Malwarebytes running. That used to cause a couple issues in terms of false positives but has since been working fine. I tried disabling that to get the forums to work and it didn’t. The issue seems isolated to Avast.
I did disable avast for 10 minutes recently, and even though that 10 minutes is up, everything seems to be working fine now. I don’t know if it happens when my PC gets restarted as I only usually turn it off about once a week, or when prompted for updates. I’m doing some large transfers right now so as soon as they are over I’ll restart and see if the sites are blocked again.

Thanks for the help! I appreciate it. If the issue comes back then I’ll be sure to post again.

I’ll get a message if you reply in this post. Hopefully you don’t have to.

Unfortunately its back again.
I tried a load of other options that people put online but nothing works.

I’ve decided I’m going to change antivirus, I just don’t have the time do deal with the issues and ontop of that Avast has missed a few viruses that the one I’m moving to has discovered.
Such as shame, I was just to about to extend my license aswell.

Thank you very much for the support Bob! Really appreciated.
Keep up the good work, Take care!

Sorry to hear that Miles,
You never did mention the sites that were blocked. Were there any messages from Avast when you couldn’t access the sites ???
As to infections not caught, remember that there is no such thing as a perfect AV. The virus or infection always comes first and the protection follows.
That holds true regardless of your AV choice. Since it’s your computer, you do make the final choice.
Take care and stay safe.

My apologies, I didn’t mean False-Positive blocked/Flagged as unsafe, I just meant Unable to access when Avast was running. It’s
Thanks though, I’ll always consider avast in the future, The many years I’ve used it have been great, Especially the other handy features that other antiviruses don’t offer.

It was this error here http://www.troublefixers.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Google-Chrome-Error-Code-138.png, I know it’s a chrome error message but it was only appearing when avast was running, so maybe the AV was interfering with chrome in a way.

You are right, it is down to personal preference and detection rates, but I will still highly recommend Avast to anyone looking for one. ;D

If you disable the Avast firewall in your version, does that eliminate the error ???
Since I use the free version, I’m not using the Avast firewall. Chrome is my default browser. it’s not an error I’ve ever seen
except when my ISP had a problem.
