Any help on this?

Thank you

BUMP - hopefully, someone can help you with this.

How much RAM do you have? Seems avast requires a little bit more to process the virus database…

It’s in the log Tech.

Seems like 512Mb with about 170Mb free at the start.

I tried to recreate this on my 12 year old Toshiba yesterday. I do not have Win 98 but it does have its close cousin Win Me and my system only has 96Mb of memory with 24Mb free at the start.

I was quite a bit further behind than the poster on VPS updates (mine was 02/02/2009).

My system successfully brought the VPS up to date (after about 20 minutes) leaving the system just to run the avast update.

On the face of it the poster’s system should have been able to do the update also. However if some other memory hungry process (perhaps a browser) was started up while the avast update was in progress it may have reduced available memory below the minium that avast could work with.

On the next restart - is the same problem encountered?

Thanks Alanrf… We need to wait for claymont input now.

What would you like to know? I’ve been running Avast on that computer for three years without any problems. I believe I’ve seen this same scenario with corrupted compressed files.

I already put a question … with respect, I seek an answer to it.

On the next restart - is the same problem encountered?

I restarted a few times when the problem arose, but I didn’t power down(that slipped by my me). This computer only runs basically on weekends. I just powered up and Avast grabbed the latest package. Everything seems to be fine now it’s restarting, I’ll know in a few minutes. Avast reports it has the latest packages, everything looks fine.

Regards,
Ernie
