This morning I booted up my computer and received error 10022 stating avast couldn’t protect NNTP, SMTP, POP3, or IMAP. I updated the software but it was updated so I uninstalled the software and reloaded it, scanned the computer and did all updates and still the error persists. What can I do about this?
In order to help fully we need more information…
- What OS are you using? is it up to date?
- What avast! version and VPS file (virus database) number, e.g. 0436-4 (see about avast!)
- Do you have another AV installed (or did you have), if so what (and how was it removed) ?
- What is your firewall ?
Does it allow access for ashMaiSv.exe ?
Have you done a forum search for ‘10022’ ?
This for instance http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=18427.0
I am using XP Media Center version and it is up to date. I am using AVAST Professional 4.6 Build February 2006 (4.6.763)
I don’t have another av sw on my computer only AVAST.
My Firewall is McAfee Firewall Plus.
My computer has been set up this way for at least six months and just recently started the error. I haven’t done any major changes to my computer in the last month or two
Does McAfee Firewall Plus include any other elements email scanning etc, has that had an update recently ?
I notice tha XP Media Center version isn’t on the supported OSes, but since that is meant to be XP with additional media elements it ‘should’ work and has been as you said.
Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
If that doesn’t work try, uninstall, reboot, install, reboot.
It would probably be best to download the latest version of avast (so you don’t need to update right away) and save it to your HDD, somewhere you can find it again. Use that when you reinstall.
I already tried the removal of Avast and updated to the lastest version yesterday before I sent my original note. McAfee is a firewall with intrusion detection with out any additional features - it is possible it has had a recent update.
Have you tried the obvious and what I over looked, is the ashMailSv.exe running in task manager, is it started as a Provider in avast, if not can you start it and when asked to Persist the changes answer Yes. Reboot and see if that sticks and remains running.
The avast! Mail Scanner should also be ‘started’ in the windows services but it should be a Manual start not Automatic, ensure it isn’t disabled.
Do you have any other security software, Process Guard, AdAware, etc. ?
