When I boot, I get messages saying Avast 4 Home can’t scan POP3/IMAP/SMTP, then I get an error 10047.
I had ZoneAlarm installed as well. I uninstalled both progs, rebooted, re-installed Avast 4 Home - same errors.
Win98 machine, P2 333.
Any thoughts?
Setup the mail as if Avast isn’t there, than run the mail protection wizzard.
And use the search option on this board. There are many other threads dealing with this problem.

Thanks for the thread reference - I had searched for error 10047, but got no results; perhaps the default search range is only the past week, or month.

I did a search only for the number 10047 without the word ‘error’.
