error 1006(000003EE) opening self-extract archive

I downloaded Avast! Free Edition 5.0.545, when it finished i clicked on the icon on desktop,it started throwing files from one folder to the other then stopped and error message read error 1006(000003EE) opening self-extract archive. I have cleaned out caches on both IE and Mozilla Firefox and downloaded from at least three different sites. I have tried installing in safe mode as well. have not even got to use antivirus program yet. I have tried all the fixes in your forum to no avail. thank you for answering

To add to the question, I am running Windows Vista HOme Premium Service Pack 1 on an HP desktop model a6114x with an AMD Athlon 64x2 dual core processor 4000+ 2.1 GHz, 2 Gb RAM. Motherboard is Manufacturer: ECS * Motherboard Name: MCP61PM-HM *
HP/Compaq motherboard name: Nettle2-GL8E. I Uninstalled windows live care and rebooted about 5 times.

Here’s the direct download link (avast server) for the free version:

Also update your Vista, you are running an outdated service pack…!!

“Flipped Out”…You probably won’t get this, as it’s been 6 months since you posted the problem below, but if you do, PLEASE tell me if you fixed it and how! I have the same exact issue and nothing posted as helped. Thanks
