Error 1006 (can not install Avast)

Sorry… I can’t help further… hope someone from Alwil could imagine what is going on…

I can’t help because Goliver still haven’t replied to my questions in my latest post. I’m still interested what files are in the temp dir, because setup.log suggest they are not there.

Has anyone figured out the fix for this error. I just convinced a bud to install and he is now getting this error. Norton has been removed. The setup exe for avast has been removed. There are no file found in local settings as previously mentioned. There are no files in the Programs or Registry. But each time the setup exe is downloaded from Cnet.com the error continues. The setup on the pc is XP office, no antivirus, dial up. I think the problem is with CNet.com as I have noticed the download starts with an indicated 2 hours to complete, then it quickly changes up to 12 minutes and completes. I have left my bud’s and called him back and instructed him to try downloading the English version directly from avast.com.

bump. Anyone?

Just to finalize the problem my friend was having with the error 1006, remove old antivirus, then install avast. Download the avast program directly from the avast site by selecting the English version. If your on dial up expect the download to fail several times before it finally downloads. When you have to start a new download delete the setupeng.exe that failed before downloading again. In this case we downloaded 8 times before it finally completed. Bud is now up and running and once again a happy camper.

Thanks for the feedback your perseverance (or Bud’s) is commendable.

Or, try to use a download manager.
Free Download Manager can do this job (and many others) very well.
