After installing Avast I get following error:
error basInitLibrary - initialization of basic library failed! check out ini file or install program again, please.
Error: 10107
I tried reinstalling, the repair function, the norton removal kit, … no luck
Someone has a clue?
Thanks in advance
I suggest:
Remove NAV or Norton 360 through Add/Remove programs from Control Panel. Boot.
Use Norton Removal Tool for Windows 2000/XP/Vista or Norton Removal Tool for Windows 98/Me . Boot.
Install avast! (or repair the installation) and boot.
The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls all Norton 2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products and Norton 360 from your computer.
After that, I suggest an installation from the scratch:
Uninstall avast from Control Panel first.
Boot.
Download the latest version of Avast Uninstall and use it for complete uninstallation.
Boot.
Install again the latest avast! version.
Boot.
Check and post the results.

Well, Microsoft docs give the following description for the error:
“A system call that should never fail has failed.”
Not very useful, I’d say
But, it is a WinSock error - so yes, it has something to do with network connection… but I’m afraid I don’t know any details.
If Igor is correct, and you’re using XP, you can try:
