error 1049

When I switch on my computer? several pop up windows say that Avast can not protect email and something else… Error 1049

This (almost always) means that something is preventing avast from setting the intercepts it needs for email and NNTP scanning. In most cases this is because a previous anti-virus product has not been properly removed and is still active in the system.

Is this a new installation of avast? If so, what was the previous program and how was it removed?

I’ve been using Avast for about a year. There were no problems. But recently this error 1049 occured. May it be caused by a firewall& I have Comodo firewall installed. Though it worked okay before…

I am not a Comodo user (there are quite a few contributors in this forum who are) but I would suggest it would be worth trying to remove the permissions for ashMaiSv.exe in the firewall and allow them to be requested again.

If that does not help I will defer to my fellow contributors who know more of Comodo.

By the way I am fairly certain the error number is 10049 - if you want to search for more information in the forum.

Thank you very much. I’ll try to do what you’ve suggested. You are right, error’s number is 10049.

You may also want to think of any other system changes you have made recently - such things as network connection speed enhancer from your ISP come to mind.

Now everything is working okay. My daughter by mistake changed some settings of the firewall. Including ashMaiSv.exe  Thanks for your help.
