Error 80004005 - avast!: Cannot scan the message body..

(I was going to add this to a similar thread, however, I was informed that I MAY receive assistance quicker if I start a new thread.)

Good day to everybody.

After the most recent update, I am receiving error messages on ALL mail - error dialogue box appears once new mail is highlighted.

ERROR MESSAGE:
avast!: Cannot scan the message body
Error Code 80004005
Unspecified error
OpenStreamOnFile failed

I tried all the suggestions in the other thread (database=XML; external control panel; Micro$ error page; uninstall & re-install), yet they did not yield any positive results … did not help. Actually, the first two only managed to turn-off or ‘disable’ all protection.

I am running:

  • Windows 98SE (4.10.2222 A)
  • Outlook Pro 2000
  • Avast!4Home
  • Kerio 2.1 (I receive the error message whether or not it’s running)
    ~ no spam filter

Again, all was working fine (Friday, April 13, 2007) until the most recent program update was installed.

Any assistance is appreciate.

You’re right, this is a confirmed bug in the current version of avast (see e.g. also here: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=27728.0).
We’ll do our best to fix it asap (should happen in about 48 hours).

Thanks
Vlk

Vlk - thanks, for the quick & detailed reply.

::slight_smile: That’s Why I’m Here ???
I went to a system restore to an earlier date.
But then after I reboot it installs itself again.
How can I keep it from updating the bad info?
Will the fix work with it as it is or should I try to
go back to system restore and shut it off till advised.

I am having the exact problem - getting the 80004005 error code and the unspecified error message. I have changed the settings to ignore in and out bound messages for the time being until the guys at Avast deliver a update/fix. Unless someone has a suggestion???

The issue should be solved in the latest version, 4.7.986.

I have the same problem, has anyone been advise solution??? :-\ :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

Sure - update to the latest version.
