When updating or upgrading:
“Error: cannot connect to the server”
On one pc, I did a repair and all went fine.
On the second pc, neither repair, nor unistall/reinstall solved the problem.
And I use the same Internet connection, same OS and applications (english versions on one, french version on another)
Well, I uninstalled avast and reinstalled the newest version tonight and everything seems to be working okay again; at least I’m able to download updates now.
Jiugiusto, check your firewall settings… is avast.setup allowed to connect?
Also, make sure your browser is not set to “Work Offline” (this option is generally in the File menu). If it doesn’t help, try switching the proxy settings from “Auto-detect” to “No proxy” (I’m assuming you’re not connecting to the Internet via proxy).
Left click the avast icon > Settings
Update (Basic) > Details > Proxy
