Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum and would very much appreciate a little advice.
Yesterday, I finally completed a clean reinstallation of Windows XP SP1a Home Edition and upgraded to SP2. I also installed various other software. This morning, I ran a scheduled boot scan with Avast - the log displayed an error code of 42136. I see that in your FAQ the error code relates to a Windows Help File {CHM archive is currupted}. The question is… how do I go about resolving/correcting this issue? Any suggestions would be very helpful to me - I am still very much a novice at this.
I don’t think there’s any issue here (the message from avast! just means that it wasn’t able to scan the content of the file because the archive seems to be corrupted - but there’s nothing to worry about here). So, I’d probably suggest to ignore the message.
Out of curiosity, however - what is the filename(s) where this error is reported?
Well, the reason I was asking about the file was that there is a possibility that the file is not really corrupted, just avast! cannot unpack it correctly (which may be correctable if it was the case).
I must say I don’t know what’s the content of the PatchCache folder (maybe only parts of the files to be patched? - the file would indeed be “corrupted” in this case). Can you upload the listed file into ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming ? I’d take a look at it…
Thanks.
Okay, thank you NickGolovko for your reassurance. So, this error isn’t a problem then (that’s a relief - I hadn’t a clue what it actually meant). In fact, I have just run a search on my pc and have found that the filename relates to a Roxio Media Creator 7 Storyboard help file which I’m able to access and view in the Roxio program file. I presume that the file found in Windows was just part of the Roxio installation process…am I correct in this assumption or am I just being a complete half wit? Sorry to sound so dumb…
Oh now I feel really stupid…how do I actually find and upload the listed file??? I have run a search for the full filename - Windows\Installer\ etc., etc., but nothing could be found. I have found both the following files: SB_overview.chm and UG_SB_Body.pdf in the Roxio Media Creator7 Program file…are these the files you need?
As stated previously, I had no luck in finding the full filename which showed up in the Avast log. C:\WINDOWS\Installer\$PatchCache$\Managed\AE4454BC981CEF14E9A36795D1BD58B2\7.0.430\SB_Overview.chm.A52FC9C8_19B1_4BD0_95E8_3E4D81AA013F\UG_SB_Body.pdf Error 42136{CHM archive is corrupted.}- File not found.
Which file/s would you like, the chm file(782KB), the pdf file (1.43MB) the containing ‘Help’ folder(61.9MB) inside the Easy Media Creator Program or none of these? Please let me know so I can send you the correct info.
