Error deploying and installing Network Client to workstations (PART 1)

Hello.

I have signed up for a trial for your products, and hope to be able to purchase them. However, I cannot seem to install the Network Client on any machine on my network!

Here is what I have done:

  1. Installed ADNM on W2K3R2 SP2

  2. Created a computer as follows:

NAME: USR-PJALAP01
DOMAIN: ANSWERBACK

  1. Created an Installation package (“Network Client”)

  2. Created a Deployment task with the Login Account credentials as follows:

Domain/Worgroup: ANSWERBACK

Account: ANSWERBACK\winsetup (local and domain admin on target machine)

Password: *******

Now, when I run the task, the target machine reboots as expected. However, when I then log on, I can see no apparent signs of the installation being successful (no system tray icon / Start Menu groups etc).

The strange thing is, when checking Add/Remove programs, avast! Antivirus (managed) is showing as installed. Also, the service “avast! NetAgent” is present but stopped. If I try to start, I receive the error: “Could not start the avast! NetAgent service on Local Computer. Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified”.

Here are the results of the log files, firstly on the client machine, then on the server. I have highlighted in red anything which looks suspicious.

Ok quick update - I’ve managed to install the Net Client on a machine using manual installation (via command-line)… so the issue really is with the deployment.

Many of us use ‘Show all unread threads’ options to browse avast forums.
So it’s normal that there is a lot of views.
Unfortunately, there are few users of ADNM giving free help here.

Ok I understand - thanks for letting me know.

I have actually managed to get the NetClient installed and working… thing is, I don’t think I did anything different!

I firstly tried a manual installation (using command line setup) - this worked.

I then used ADNM to uninstall the NetClient - this worked.

I then created a new deployment package, a new deployment task and hey presto - the NetClient install remotelywith apparently no problem…!

Strange… obviously I’m happy that it is working… but I would like to know what those errors were should the same problem occur again.

The problem might be that server couldn’t access \USR-PJALAP01\C$ using credentials entered to remote deployment task.
Did you install over existing avast installation, e.g. upgrade from Professional to NetClient?
If the problem appears again, send me the whole setup.log to my email.

Well, so far so good… I haven’t managed to reproduce the error so hopefully it was a weird one-off… it it does occur again I will repost!
