I started avast! antivirus from the tray, stop initial memory scan during AV load and got error ‘The system can not open device or file specified’ - ‘Невозможно инициализировать хранение данных’ (probably English translation is like ‘Data storage initialization is impossible’).
I can not find any record in the log corresponding to this error. To reproduce this error I can not too (I tried several times but everything worked ok)
System XP SP2, avast! 4.8.1185 Pro
P.S. Sorry, there are 4 similar error records in Event Viewer (Antivirus log)
It’s a very old storage error… since when avast uses ODBC or XML storage methods.
Doesn’t repair the installation help? (Control Panel > Add/Remove programs)
I can reproduce it once more with different MessageBox but with the same 4 records in the Event Viewer
I don’t know would be repair usefull because this error is rather rare (I should specially make several tries to load avast with stopping initial memory scan to reproduce it).
P.S. I don’t know is it real reason of this behaviour or not, but I found the following: my disk is NTFS one, and there are 2 errors in NTFS indexes (for some non-avast files). I deleted these files, NTFS errors were gone. Now I can not reproduce this error once more. So may be this is FS related error.
If the files aren’t avast related, why will avast has a storage problem with them? ???
avast! failed during CREATE DATABASE command. So FS error can be possible reason of this failure. I don’t know what is errorcode 14 - is it some avast! specific one or common Windows ERROR_OUTOFMEMORY
Should (hopefully) be fixed in build 4.8.1187.
