Error: failed to connect to ff-at.avast.com

The web interface for my account shows my device as unprotected and if I try to “Fix connection problems” I get the following error:

Error: failed to connect to ff-at.avast.com/77.234.40.44 (port 443) after 10000ms

This happens both on 3G and on a Wifi network where I can ping 77.234.40.44 with no problems. What could be wrong here?
