Error in transferring file over home network

I downloaded a Zune software file from Microsoft for my daughter’s computer. Avast showed it to be clean.
However, when I copied it to her computer over our in-house network, I got this error report in the log.

9/17/2008 9:19:26 PM SYSTEM 1628 AAVM - scanning error: x_AavmCheckFileDirectEx: avfilesScanReal of \Experience\SharedDocs\microsoft\ZunePackage30.exe failed, 00000005.

Any explanation as to what it means? Is her copy messed up? Should I try again?

Error 5 is access denied.
Probably the file was pasted in a folder that you don’t have access at that time.
Is the file really clean? Did you check with www.virustotal.com ???

I tried to upload it, but they said it was too large. It is a 165MB file directly downloaded from Microsoft, so I really don’t
think it’s infected. I transferred the file to a shared folder in her machine, and we both have administrator access.
Thanks for your suggestion, and if you have any other ideas please let me know.

A quick question… does Avast scan the file asI’m sending it, and is the fail error at my end, or the other computer?

This isn’t really an issue, the file should still be copied to the location you sent it to, all the above error (if it could really be called an error) is reporting is that a file couldn’t be scanned, that doesn’t mean it is infected, just that it couldn’t be scanned.

I rarely pay a visit to the avast log viewer, unless there is an avast error displayed to the screen as the error wording isn’t very user friendly.

So did the file reach the location you wanted to send it to ?
If so, did/can you scan it in this location on that host system ?

It is down to permissions and whatever initiates the scan doesn’t have that permission for cross network scanning.

I don’t use a network so I can’t really be any practical help.

The limit is 10Mb.

Sending to whom? To VirusTotal, no WebShield does not scan uploads.
To another computer, depends on which Standard Shield sensitivity level you use (High or Normal).

Oh well, thanks to all you guys for your help. The other machine is being used now, so I’ll check it later. I don’t know
if anyone here uses Zune, but my kids have been having all kinds of trouble updating the Zune software. We’ve been
checking all the forums and it seems the whole world has been having the same kind of problems. If this download
doesn’t work then we will just give up on the whole Zune fiasco. Thanks again.

You’re welcome, let us know if you do find the issue with zune.
