I had a weird error when installing Avast. I have installed it before on this PC with my antivirus enabled. However, today when I tried to install it to verify something, I got an error saying that “Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item”. After I went to a different folder and went back to my Downloads folder, it “worked”, as the Avast logo popped up before a different error message appeared. This time, it said something about that there was a problem connecting to Avast servers and I should check my connection, even though my connection was fine.
A few minutes later, I noticed that there was another avast setup on my Desktop, but I never moved it there myself. All of this behavior seems odd to me, not sure why it’s happening, Any insight? Thanks!
Can someone explain the need to ‘Run as Administrator’? Anything you install that needs elevated permissions will ask you to grant it, and running as administrator on the Avast installer or the uninstall tool doesn’t change that.
Right, but the UAC prompt pops up and asks for those admin privileges on a regular double click already. So is right clicking to ‘Run as Administrator’ (which still displays the UAC prompt) just a preference/out of habit?
